MONTEPIO Foundation provides support to social organisations and nongovernmental institutions working on the ground, on innovative programs that promote social innovation.
MONTEPIO Foundation provides support to social organisations and nongovernmental institutions working on the ground, on innovative programs that promote social innovation

Main areas of intervention:
  • Promoting innovative economic and social proposals;
  • Supporting active citizenships;
  • Geographical decentralization of the foundation:
  • Affirmation of the Foundation as a Responsible Social Organization;
In 2013, more than 1000 proposals and projects were analyzed, some of them with visits and assessment meetings held, making it possible to provide technical and financial support to 181 institutions pursuing the goal of social investment. As in previous years, agreements with a number of private and third sector organizations were assessed and renewed and their compliance was assessed in close cooperation with the commercial network.

The corporate volunteer program is an initiative of great importance in the context of social responsibility, being a powerful tool for partnership and promotion of our image among our stakeholders. After 7 years, in 2013 the corporate volunteer program of MONTEPIO counted with more than 1100 employees enrolled within the institution enabling them to engage in solidarity projects during working hours. Within a year the number grew about 28,4% in terms of subscribers to the Volunteer Program, which represents an increase of 314 new employees-volunteers. This number included over thirty retired colleagues. Throughout 2013 around 29 voluntary collective actions were performed, with 493 volunteers on the ground, engaged in actions of social and environmental nature.

Main projects developed by the Foundation, beyond Financial Literacy and Microcredit:
  • Frota Solidária
  • This project provides mobility to vulnerable groups of people by offering adapted cars to social organisations. The project began in 2009 and has already distributed 103 cars all over the country.
  • Prémio Escolar
  • In the field of education, we undertook in 2013 the fifth MONTEPIO School Award Project in which a 25.000 euro donation each was made to the five state schools with the best, most innovative education projects, with a view to rewarding good school performance.
