FLORESTA CAIXA

Floresta Caixa (Caixa Forest) is CGD’s structured involvement with Portuguese indigenous forests, through plantation and awareness building activities since 2006. Its main objectives are environmental sustainability; recognising trees as one of the fundamental elements for the survival of the species and the balance of ecosystems and the resulting continuity of future generations; compensation for GHG emissions resulting from CGD’s activities; see children as leaders in the defence of forest heritage and biodiversity; positioning the Caixa brand among younger customers and their parents, through environmental responsibility perceived in CGD’s activity and the concern for leaving a legacy for the future of each child customer.
Caixa Geral de Depósitos, based on the environmental pillar of its Sustainability programme, has positioned itself as a national benchmark through a set of initiatives, including Floresta Caixa (Caixa Forest), being the only Bank with a structured involvement with Portuguese indigenous forests.
This project, with plantation and awareness building activities since 2006, has the following main objectives:
  • Environmental sustainability;
  • Trees as one of the fundamental elements for the survival of the species and the balance of ecosystems and the resulting continuity of future generations;
  • Continuation of compensation for GHG emissions resulting fro CGD's activity

CGD’s vision, for a long time, has always maintained that the path to follow must benefit future generations, which is why we see the future with different eyes, adding more objectives:
  • Children as leaders in the defence of forest heritage and biodiversity
  • Positioning of the Caixa brand among younger customers and their parents, through environmental responsibility perceived in CGD’s activity and the concern for leaving a legacy for the future of each child customer.

The fulfilment of these objectives is a challenge promoted by Caixa in its daily work through several programmes, specifically Floresta Caixa. This project, whose purpose is to save native Portuguese forests and reforest areas affected by fire, is now also a contribution to a better future of each of its children.
Forests play a fundamental role in the well-being of populations, contributing to the fight against desertification and soil degradation, the mitigation of climate change and the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Caixa wishes to inculcate this knowledge among the young population, encouraging good sustainable practices for saving and conserving natural resources such as Forests, Water, Energy and others, and promoting the sense of responsibility and economy in support of a better society for all citizens.
As a means of alerting younger generations to all the benefits of forests and that, for this, it is necessary to respect it as an integral part of Planet Earth that is essential for our survival, Caixa promotes a project that honours Portuguese Forests and all their children: caring, every day of the year, for one tree for each CGD child customer.
With the “Your Tree, Our Forest”, Caixa contributes to building a better future for future generations.
