Montepio: Business friendly to the environment

MONTEPIO group and, very particularly, Caixa Económica Montepio Geral, are committed to the environment and the development of measures to improve the environment, by implementing a model of energy efficiency.
MONTEPIO group and, very particularly, Caixa Económica Montepio Geral , are committed to the environment and the development of measures to improve the environment: implementing a full and comprehensive model of energy efficiency in branches and central buildings:
  1. Savings of over 43% energy;
  2. A higher level of comfort for employees and customers through uniform temperature, such as heating and air conditioning control;
  3. Saving of more than 2,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions;
  4. Removal of waste and materials which are difficult to dispose of and recycling by using technologies that have a shelf life exceeding 10 times those currently employed. That is, we implement technology, saving in:
  5. - Light capacity
    - Longer life span
    - Disposal of material that is difficult to recycle: lamps and equipment with very complex recycling processes and that cause great damage to the environment.
    - Lower consumption of raw materials;
  6. Support for sustainable development by consuming less energy, given that the world has limited resources.
At the same time, MONTEPIO, in their volunteer programs, supports the regular and continuous enhancement and conservation of the environment with a clear benefit for green environments and sustainable economy.

Another example of MONTEPIO’s commitment to responsibility is the fact that “Montepio” magazine and “MONTEPIO Jovem” journal—both connecting every quarter MONTEPIO – Mutual Association and its members (with a combined average circulation in 2013 of over 450 000 copies)—are printed with paper certificated by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (www.pefc.org), the world’s largest forest certification system.
