> Making a responsible contribution to the community

Luxembourg

BCEE looks after the community

In accordance with article 5 of its Statutes (law of March 24th, 1989), the mission of Banque et Caisse d’ Epargne de L’Etat ( BCEE) is:
  • to contribute by its activities, in particular financing activities, towards economic and social development of the country in all areas and,
  • to promote savings in all forms
In line with its social mission to contribute towards the economic and social development of Luxembourg, BCEE has joined a group of companies committed to promote sustainable development and social responsibility. These initiatives are above all of a voluntary nature and go beyond legal obligations.

This group has developed a charter for social responsibility and sustainable development. By signing this charter, BCEE shows its commitment to corporate governance principles taking account of the impact of its activities in the Luxembourg economy, the environment, its personnel and the local community.

In 2008, BCEE joined the IMS (Institut pour le Mouvement Sociétal), an association of companies working for the development of corporate social responsibility in Luxembourg.

On May 8th 2012, the INDR (Institut national pour le développement durable et de la responsabilité des entreprises) granted the label of "Entreprise Socialement Responsable - ESR" to BCEE. In order to receive this label, BCEE was tested by an external auditor on the 3 pillars of the CSR model:
  • social, as well as equal opportunities to men and women,
  • governance
  • environment

During the official award ceremony, Mrs Françoise THOMA, director and member of the Executive Committee, pointed out the subsidiarity principle in the CSR domain as it is transposed at all levels of BCEE. The efforts of all BCEE personnel are validated by the label. The BCEE will continue to assume its responsibilities towards its customers, its personnel, the environment and the community.
