CGD Employees: More than 33 thousand hours of volunteer work in the European Year of Volunteering

Employees of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) surpassed the challenge proposed for 2011 of 20 thousand man hours in volunteer activities throughout the country, as part of the European Year of Volunteering. In all, Caixa’s employees accounted for more than 33 thousand hours of volunteer work, including environmental protection activities and interaction with communities, such as supporting disadvantaged and/or disabled citizens and cleaning beaches.
Employees of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) surpassed the challenge proposed for 2011, of 20 thousand man hours in volunteer activities throughout the country, as part of the European Year of Volunteering. In all, Caixa’s employees accounted for more than 33 thousand hours of volunteer work.

In the last year, Caixa promoted and encouraged the participation of its employees in joint and civic activities, within the scope of environmental protection and interaction with communities it is involved in, namely in supporting disadvantaged and/or disabled citizens.

The activities performed, which involved the active participation of hundreds of employees, their family members and friends, are proof of Caixa’s awareness that this sustainable path contributes to a better society, taking on the ethics and commitment of good practices in involvement with the community that it is part of, in the social as well as environmental spheres.

In addition to activities commemorating Caixa’s 135th anniversary, which mobilised hundreds of employees throughout the country, in activities for cleaning beaches and others together with the Banco Alimentar contra a Fome (Food Bank against Hunger), we also had the valuable participation of the Blood Donors’ Group of Caixa’s Social Services, ANAC – Caixa’s National Association of Retired Staff, and the Time Bank.

In light of the good response by all those who participated, throughout the year, in different activities, at the personal level as well as in strengthening corporate culture, and the highly positive feedback from the community, Caixa’s employees maintain the responsibility of responding to challenges that are presented by society.
