CGD Carbon Calculator

The CGD Carbon Calculator is a tool that allows each citizen to calculate his or her carbon footprint, and to analyse options for reducing it. In other words, it is possible to measure the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with day-to-day activities. The CGD carbon calculator thus serves an educational purpose, facilitating the quantification of emissions associated with users’ day-to-day activities and presenting specific solutions to reduce these emissions, calling upon them to make a personal commitment to take action in combating climate change.
CGD recognises climate change as a priority topic of the twenty-first century. With this programme, it seeks to reaffirm its role as an active part of the solution, through its leadership in responding to the new demands of an economy where, globally, restrictions on carbon emissions are already a reality.
Part of the Caixa Carbono Zero (Zero Carbon) programme, the CGD Carbon Calculator is a tool that allows each citizen to calculate his or her carbon footprint, and to analyse options for reducing it.
In other words, it is possible to measure the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with day-to-day activities. These emissions can be direct (e.g. emissions resulting from fuel consumption in motor vehicles) or indirect (e.g. emissions associated with the production of electricity consumed in a house).
The calculator is divided into two sections: housing and mobility. In the housing section, questions relating to key energy-using equipment (e.g. lighting, audio-visual or refrigeration equipment) and how they are used are posed. In the mobility section, questions regarding the use of different means of transport are posed.
The CGD carbon calculator thus serve an educational purpose, facilitating the quantification of emissions associated with users’ day-to-day activities and presenting specific solutions to reduce these emissions, calling upon them to make a personal commitment to take action in combating climate change.
What sets it apart: through a set of simple questions, the CGD carbon calculator allows users to simulate their patterns of energy consumption in housing and travel, providing, as they navigate, specific information on good practices for reducing emissions from the use of equipment or transport.
Based on the user’s responses, the unit detects the key areas of intervention for reducing carbon emissions and builds a personalised reduction plan, complete with Caixa financing solutions that facilitate access to technologies with lower emissions. By accepting the challenge of implementing the measures outlined in their emissions reduction plans, users can make an individual commitment to take action on climate change.
